Tribeca: A Little Local Context
Tribeca got its name from a 1970s real-estate coinage — the Triangle Below Canal — for a district that had spent a hundred years moving butter, eggs, and textiles through its loading docks. Duane Park, the small triangle at the center of it, was the city's butter and cheese market for most of that time.
