Village Halloween Parade 2026 Route & Map
The parade moves north along a single avenue, which makes the route easy to picture.
Marcher entry: Canal Street and Sixth Avenue. Costumed participants gather here between 6:30pm and 9pm. This is a staging area for marchers, not the best place to watch.
Spectator route begins: King Street. Public viewing starts at King Street, just south of West Houston Street.
Busiest section: Bleecker Street to 14th Street. This stretch through Greenwich Village, past West 4th Street, draws the biggest crowds.
Parade end: West 15th Street. The parade disperses at the northern end of the route.
Heading east after: From Sixth Avenue at Houston Street, SoHo starts almost immediately, and 259 Bowery is about a 15 to 20 minute walk east into NoHo and the Bowery.
What Is the Village Halloween Parade?
The parade started in 1973 as a neighborhood walk. Puppeteer and mask maker Ralph Lee led his children and their friends from Westbeth Artists Housing through Greenwich Village. It grew every year after that.
Jeanne Fleming has directed the parade since 1985. Today it brings giant puppets, bands and tens of thousands of costumed marchers onto Sixth Avenue, and anyone in costume can take part.
The 2026 theme, Body & Soul, is about the link between the physical self and the spirit inside it. The skeletons that traditionally lead the parade are the obvious starting point, but there are no costume rules.
What Time Does the Village Halloween Parade Start and End?
The parade starts at 7pm and runs until about 11pm.
Groups step off in waves, so the parade reaches the northern end of the route well after 7pm. Crowds build long before the start. If you want a spot on the barricade, arrive in the late afternoon or early evening.
Where Is the Best Place to Watch the Parade?
You can watch from anywhere along Sixth Avenue between King Street and West 15th Street.
The busiest stretch runs from Bleecker Street to 14th Street. It has the most energy and the most people.
The southern end near SoHo is usually easier. You're closer to the start, the parade reaches you sooner, and it's less packed than the blocks around West 4th Street.
Pick a side before you arrive. Crossing Sixth Avenue during the parade is very difficult, and most side streets near the route are blocked. If you're heading east afterward, toward SoHo, Nolita, the Bowery, the Lower East Side or the East Village, watch from the east side of Sixth Avenue so you can leave without crossing the route.
Agree on a meeting point a few blocks from the avenue. Finding someone once the parade starts is hard.
How Do You Join the Parade in Costume?
Anyone in costume can march, with no registration needed. Join the lineup at Canal Street and Sixth Avenue between 6:30pm and 9pm. Without a costume you can watch, but you can't march.

Getting There and Getting Home
Halloween falls on a Saturday in 2026, so plan dinner, transportation and where you're going after the parade ahead of time. Walk-in tables across the Village, SoHo and the Lower East Side will be hard to find.
Take the subway, not a car. Street closures around Sixth Avenue start before the parade and continue after it.

Walk a few blocks before you board. After the parade, the stations closest to the route are the most crowded. You'll usually get home faster by walking several blocks away from Sixth Avenue first.

Halloween Events in Downtown Manhattan 2026
The parade is the main event, but Halloween in Downtown Manhattan runs through October.
East Village Ghosts Walking Tour: Saturday, October 3, 7pm. Run by the Merchant's House Museum, the tour starts at Manuel Plaza, 35 East 4th Street. Tickets are $40.
Merchant's House Candlelight Ghost Tours: October 16–17, 23–24 and 29–30. The Merchant's House Museum at 29 East 4th Street, a preserved 19th-century home in NoHo with a long reputation for ghost stories, runs 50-minute candlelight tours every half hour from 6:30pm to 9pm. Tickets are $45. A longer 90-minute Super Spooky tour with a paranormal investigator starts at 9:30pm on the same nights, for $70.
Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade: Saturday, October 17, 2026. The 36th annual parade runs along Avenue B beside Tompkins Square Park. Organizers currently list the event for mid-morning, with the exact time still subject to change.
Trick-or-Streets 2026. NYC DOT has confirmed that Trick-or-Streets returns for its fifth year, bringing Halloween and harvest programming to Open Streets, plazas and other pedestrian spaces throughout October. Specific 2026 locations and event times are still being finalized.

After the Parade: Heading East
East of Sixth Avenue, Downtown Manhattan is dense, walkable and full of places that stay open late on a Saturday.
SoHo. The closest option from the southern end of the route. Stay on the east side of Sixth Avenue, and SoHo's restaurants and bars are only a few blocks away.
Nolita. Smaller blocks, smaller venues and a slightly calmer crowd. Elizabeth and Mott Streets north of Kenmare are worth the extra walk.
NoHo and the Bowery. Where Houston meets the Bowery, you're close to the Merchant's House and a strip of late-night restaurants and bars. It's also where we are.
The Lower East Side. Ludlow, Orchard and Rivington are Downtown's late-night center, and they'll be in costume well past midnight.
The East Village. St. Marks Place and the avenues around Tompkins Square have their own Halloween crowd, separate from the parade.
